Save 2nd Base

It's coming, our second and final Saving Second Base show of the year. That's right, it's right around the corner. We gave you plenty of warning so I hope you cleared your calendar because we're going to blow the roof off the Finish Line in Princeton on Saturday August 15th. How's that for a sales pitch? Sorry, I can't do the monster truck announcer voice via blog post.

Our last show was a huge success. In addition, The Deadwoods managed to learn and play a bunch of new cover tunes along with a pile of classics, we threw in a sprinkling of Deadwoods tunes and even managed to pull a handful of songs out of our ass on the night of the show and we discovered that makes a pretty damn good recipe! So, we're going to mix it all up and bring it all back again.

We do these shows because as I pointed out in our last post about boobs, my wife, my sister and my sister-in-law will be walking 60 miles in August in the Breast Cancer 3-Day Walk to benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure. And as part of this, they each must raise large amounts of cash to help research breast cancer treatments. Crazy? Yes. But that's why we love them... and support them... and their boobs! So come out and support a very good cause and enjoy a very good time!

Anyways, here are the details:

The Deadwoods
Saturday, August 15th
@ 8pm till close
$10 cover (all proceeds go to the cause)

The Deadwoods

So, our first Save Second Base show of the summer is in the books. This turned out to be one hell of a good show and an equally good time. We had lots of our up north friends and family come out as well as a few hardcore friends from the cities drive all the way up (Elvis never leaves this building!).

Playing cover tunes can be a lot of fun when you get it done right and it was fun since there was a fair amount of new stuff that we pulled out this time around. Even played a handful of tunes that night that we've never played, ever, and they didn't even suck! That's saying something, not sure what, but something. There was also a very good response to the Deadwoods original tunes we threw in there, so we're starting to feel pretty good about this whole Deadwoods thing.

Anywho, thanks to everybody who came out and pitched in. The event raised somewhere in the neighborhood of $2,000 which is more than what was expected and comes very close to closing the deal for my wife, her sister and the other 3-day walkers involved. Not that that will stop us, we're still on the hook for the show in Princeton on August 15th. Keep that date open, you don't want to miss this!

Also, we posted a few photos from the show up on the Deadwoods Facebook Fan page. Go check em out. Someday I'll figure out a better way to display pictures right here on our site, but for now we'll take advantage of Facebook.

Ok, so maybe we haven't gotten our music on the radio just yet, but at least we got our name on the radio!

Here is a radio advertisement for our upcoming show in Bemidji at Lazy Jack's this weekend. Pretty cool stuff:

Or you can just download the mp3 file if the thingy above don't work: Lazy Jack's Ad (mp3)

So you're thinking about making the trip up to Bemidji with us but you're not sure where to stay? We're here to help. Here are some campgrounds and motels that might do the trick for you.

Campgrounds

Motels
  • Rutger's - On the Lake and very close to the bar. Probably one of the more pricey options.
  • Super 8 - A couple miles from the bar on the edge of town. Nice, clean and fairly inexpensive.

Otherwise, here are some google links for motels and campgrounds. There are a bunch of motels right in town Bemidji which are only a couple miles from the bar and campgrounds/resorts all around the area. Not sure what's available on a Saturday in the summer.

If you're going up, post a comment and let people know where you're staying so you can keep the party going all night long!

Save 2nd Base

Do I have your attention? Ok good. The Deadwoods are all very fond of boobs, I won't lie, however, this post is really about our overall concern for the vast destruction of the many poor, innocent, ample breasts that will succumb to breast cancer this year and into the future. We don't like it and neither should you! It's time we stood up to this cruel disease and said NO! Leave the boobies alone!

And so, The Deadwoods will once again barge to the forefront and take a stand! This is our 3rd year in a row helping to raise money for the fight against breast cancer. Actually, this year, we'll be doing double duty. First on June 6th in Bemidji and again on August 15th in Princeton (we'll have another post about the Princeton gig soon).

So, the fight begins on June 6th in the beautiful northwoods of Minnesota in a little town called Bemidji. We'll be playing a bar known as Lazy Jack's. It's a fairly new bar in town, less than a year old, but a great bar none the less. It happens to be owned by my sister-in-law who along with my wife and my sister will be walking 60 miles in August in the Breast Cancer 3-Day Walk to benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Crazy? Yes. But that's why we love them... and support them... and their boobs!

We'll be playing all night which means we'll be bringing you a full helping of raucous cover tunes (some familiar covers and some new covers since we have Corey playing with us this year) and we'll mix in your favorite Deadwoods tunes as well. As you can see from the event flyer, there will be other events, cash prizes and all kinds of other fun ways to donate your money to the cause. And, back by popular demand, the Save 2nd Base t-shirts will also be available for sale.

So, I think you ought to take a weekend off and join us in Bemidji for what looks to be a seriously good time. The Deadwoods plan to go up on Friday and possibly get some fishing/drinking in on Saturday before the gig. Bring your boat! Or just bring some beer and meet us at the lake! You definitely do not want to miss this one.

If you just can't make it up to Bemidji but still want to join the fight, you can always chip in online. To Donate online, just click one of the following links which go to my wife, sister in law and sister's 3-day page:

So, once again, here are the details:

Saturday June 6th 2009
Lazy Jack's

Bemidji, MN 56601

Here is a map to Lazy Jack's (it is mostly accurate, if you followed this, you'd go right past the bar, not right to it!):
